Screw Business As Usual

Read a pretty good article, Screw Business as Usual, which toted business as the best tool to drive chage, which I totally agree with, but I had to add my two cents.  Below is the comment I left.

"I agree with 90% of this article, business as the driver and design revolution, both great things. But where this falls down is mobilizing the citizens. I think you need to be looking at providing some assurance to these people that are taking a risk that they won't be living on the street if it all goes south. If you want uptake you need to make it safe for people. What if there was something like the army where people could join, get some basic training, and get a job either with the army or out in the private sector, doing good things, getting paid by the army, not worried about compromising their morals because the army has their back. The way the army makes money is they collect the money the people in the private sector make, and hopefully it's more than what they are paying the people. Sound weird? Well, think of it like an employment agency then, an employment agency which helps you out between jobs. To crank this up a notch, all the employees could create a market for sustainable/responsible services. Everyone needs clothes, food, shelter, transportation and cell phones, right? At first you could get group discounts for people, then as you grow you could be telling companies what you want, then as you grow again you could be designing and producing the products you want, the way you want.
Don't just focus on smart people designing tangible things, focus on designing a framework that is safe, rewarding, and where you are highly praised for doing what is best for the community rather than the self.
We can't just wait for spontaneous cooperation, we need to design for it!'
