Open Letter to Ron Garan
Dear Mr. Garan,
I just saw your article on unreasonable.is, and I couldn't agree more that the key to our problems is collaboration, but I think we need to go bigger than the collaboration of those who are already trying to do good. We need the collaboration of just about everyone living their everyday lives. Buckminster Fuller thought our best hope would be Spontaneous Cooperation, but I think it's too optimistic to think that that would happen without being preceded by a global catastrophe. I think we need to focus on creating an organization focused on Coordinated Cooperation.
My solution would look something like an employment agency mixed with an army. It be open to everyone, and provide basic training, basic room and board if needed, but it would place people out in all sorts of jobs, often among those that are not part of the organization.
Right now I think that people who are trying to do good are focusing on solving problems that are a result of a broken system. It's like a city trying to solve a rat problem by focusing on the rats, when it is overlooking the fact that they pile their garbage in the streets. This is an analogy I heard Anthony Robbins use, but I think it applies to a lot of what we are doing. We are focusing on the rats, but we should be helping people find a better way to deal with the garbage.
I saw that you are involved with co.impact and LAUNCH, and these look like aspects I'd incorporate into the employment agency/army, because on their own they are fighting an uphill battle. They are trying to fight against huge corporations for peoples time and money. The beauty of the agency/army is that there would be a captive audience for these causes and innovations. People looking to help and people looking to adopt the new tech.
The operational focus of the agency would be something like "reduce the cost of living through innovation, collaboration, and lifestyle changes, to help people be the change they want to see in the world". Right now so many people seem to want to help change the world but don't know how to fit it in with their daily lives, so they don't. And I think that is a huge missed opportunity. Not only a missed opportunity, but the key to changing the world.
I think a lot of people see a revolution as the only solution to bringing about the change we need today. But I think a solution like this could be marketed as a way to 'live happier' (and actually deliver on that) and designed to be scalable, resulting in a solution that simply makes the current way of doing things obsolete!
Check out the home page for a more detailed explanation.
Let me know what you think, I'd love to discuss it further.
Sincerely,
(Coordinated) Spontaneous Cooperation Guy
